Sufficient proof of divine support for all existence

is a conquest that restored the honor of monotheism where it had been abased.

If it veiled unbelief, grim-faced and scowling,

    it brought faith forth rejoicing.

How often faith writhed under injustice and deviation,

because of one who turned its rightful support into abandonment.

what turned the pearls of tears into coral?

Claiming vision amid blindness, he afflicted the call to prayer

with the bells and crosses he newly introduced.

    فَكيفَ يأمُلُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ رِضْوَانَا

    And by oppressing people, he angered the One merciful to them;

how, then, can he hope for God's good pleasure?

for if he weighs light, he weighs light in the scales on Judgment Day.

no, rather, he clung to idols and graven images.

    with polytheism's delights—rabbis and monks.

imagining it to be strings and melodies.

in the rulings of the two scriptures, Gospel and Qur'an.

that Ashamah and Luqman be kept above such comparison.

are fitter likenesses for whoever seeks to know him.

why, then, did the sons of Bahana boast of it?

Suppose they were his support: what did they ward

from him when he persistently clothed himself in disgrace?

Truth has invalidated what they uttered as slander,

and justice has demolished the structures they raised.

when among the unbelievers he was not seen yielding.

he would not have accepted the rabble of the Trinity as brothers.

Dudan is indeed a reproach to Adnan.

that fill the assembly, threatening the Judge with aggression.

of a band that shuffled toward oppression like male ostriches.

when they touched it, unsheathed and ravenous.

suffice you what aggression brought upon Udwan.

count him drowsy, though he is among the wakeful.

it brought him back to seek Tlemcen in aggression.

but became sated with the blood of his entrails.

that killed him; hear of him: he betrayed and stood disgraced.

At Oujda, anguish gave Death mastery over

his life, which it stripped from him in anger.

his soul, foul in both spirit and body.

they clothed him in gold from his blood, shed unavenged.

Even the steed that had once protected him

cast him down, crushing him in hatred and contempt.

like wind snapping great trees and branches.

honor lies in making the backs of horses one's homeland.

lions when they prey upon their rivals, wolves.

Ibn Husayn's praises of the house of Hamdan.

and in his conduct among his subjects; he has comforted us.

what never deserts night conversations or riders.

if perjury does not break the oaths sworn in them.

Glad tidings, glad tidings, O king of kings, through this—

the conquest of conquests—our glad tidings, our glad tidings!

By God, do those with insight doubt

its unveiling as the title of the book of success?

Fortune fashioned its gift exquisitely, and there appeared

its adornments, dazzling intellects and minds.

Time chose it as gladness upon its brow,

and strutted, adorned in robes of joy.

    وَأَنْتَ نَاصِرُنا حَقّاً وَمَوْلانا

    Your Lord, the helper of sovereign power, protected you through it;

and you are truly our helper and our patron.
