حَمَّلتِyou burdened نَفْسِيmy soul مَاwhat تَنُوءُit staggers بهِunder it كَماjust as
حَمَّلتِ نَفْسِي مَا تَنُوءُ بهِ كَما
مَزَّقتِنِيyou tore me بالحُبِّwith love كُلَّevery مُمَزَّقِtearing apart
مَزَّقتِنِي بالحُبِّ كُلَّ مُمَزَّقِ
You burdened my soul with a load it staggers under, just as
I burdened my soul with love that weighed upon it
You tore me utterly to shreds with love.
As you tore me apart, all torn pieces
فاسْودَّso it grew black مِنfrom طولِlength التذكُّرِremembrance مُضْمَرِيmy inner self
فاسْودَّ مِن طولِ التذكُّرِ مُضْمَرِي
وابيَضand it grew white مِنْfrom هَوْلِterror التَّفرُّقِseparation مَفْرقيthe parting of my hair
وابيَض مِنْ هَوْلِ التَّفرُّقِ مَفْرقي
So my inner self grew black from long remembrance,
So my thoughts grew dark remembering your absence
And the parting of my hair grew white from the terror of separation.
And my being turned pale fearing our parting
