وأمثالُand the likes of هاتيكَthose الربىthe hills يَقْتَضيcalls for الزَّوْراvisiting
The dew-drenched hills grew fragrant, so I visited them.
The meadows were scented with fragrance, so I visited them,
And hills like those call for a visit.
And places like these deserve to be visited.
وأتحفنيand gifted me منهاfrom them الربيعُspring بِوَرْدِهِwith its roses
عبيراًfragrant بهwith it الأنفاسُthe breaths إذwhen فَتَقَopened النوراthe blossoms
And spring bestowed on me its roses from those hills,
Spring adorned me with its roses,
Perfuming the breath with them as it opened the blossoms.
Their aroma filled the air as dawn broke.
حكتْresembled نفحةًa waft of fragrance ممّنfrom the one whom هَوِيْتُI loved ووَجْنَةًand a cheek
فأنْشُقُهاso I smell them طَوْرَاًat times وألثمهاand I kiss them طَوْرَاat times
They echoed the scent and cheek of the one I loved,
A breeze told tales of whom I adore,
So at times I inhale their scent, and at times I kiss them.
So I split it in two and kissed it repeatedly.
سَقَتْنيshe gave me drink بيُمْناهاwith her right hand وفيهاand her mouth فلمand did not أزلI cease

She gave me drink with her right hand and her mouth, and still
She served me wine with her right hand and I became eternally drunk,
Intoxication from that or this kept tugging at me.
Torn between this one and that in my intoxication.
ترشّفتُI sipped فاهاًher mouth إذas ترَشّفتُI sipped كأسَهاher cup
فَلاso no والهوىby love لمdid not أَدْرِI know أيَّهماwhich of the two الخمرthe wine
I sipped from her mouth as I sipped from her cup.
I sipped her mouth, sipping her cup,
No, by love, I could not tell which of the two was wine.
By God, I couldn't tell which was the wine.
