    The breeze grew gentle, and the garden lovely with blossoms.

    So wake the cup and ewer with the music of a string.

    Life is nothing but morning wine, or cool sweetness

    That makes wine needless, from a limpid mouth with finely notched teeth.

    Tell the stars: Lower your eyes for sleep,

    For the flowers' eyes have more right than you to keep vigil.

    هذا الدُّجى قد طَوَتْهُ راحةُ السَّحَر

    And to the morning: Come, spread a robe of radiance;

    This darkness has already been folded away by dawn's palm.

    يكاد مِعْطَفُهُ ينقدُّ بالنَّظَر

    And one slim of waist rose bearing tawny wine;

    His flank could almost be rent by a glance.

    تخالُها اخْتُلِسَتْ من ثغره الخَصِر

    Pearls float upon it whenever he mixes it with water;

    You would think them stolen from his cool mouth.

    So the cup in his palm, brimful of wine,

    Is like a halo encircling the moon on the horizon.
