ياO نازحاًone who draws away بودادِهِwith his affection لمّاwhen بداappeared
واشٍa slanderer وليسyet is not عنfrom الفؤادِthe heart بنازحat all distant
O you who withdrew your love when there appeared
O one who deserted his beloved as soon as he showed himself,
a slanderer, yet who are not distant from my heart.
Yet he is not one who deserts the heart,
ماhow كانَwas أحسنَbeautiful شَمْلَناour union ونظامَهُand its harmony
لوif كنتَyou were لاnot تصغيyou listen لِقَوْلِto the words of الكاشحthe spiteful foe
How beautiful our union and its harmony would have been,
How good was our union and its order,
had you not heeded the words of the spiteful foe.
Had you not listened to the words of the slanderer,
إنّيindeed I لأعجبُI surely marvel كيفَhow يَعْزُبُescapes notice عنكَfrom you ماwhat
أضمرتُI harbored فيكfor you وأنتwhile you بينbetween جوانحيmy ribs
I truly marvel at how you can be unaware of what
I wonder how what I cherish for you in my heart,
I have harbored for you, while you dwell between my ribs.
Escapes you, while you are between my wings.
