مشغوفةٍ بمَقاتلِ الأعداءِ
I would ransom her, a curved nabʿ bough,
I ransomed her from a deceptive spring,
enamored of the enemies’ vital spots.
Passionately in love with the enemy's warriors.

She kept company with the grove’s doves (ḥamām) while verdant,
She was accustomed to the doves of Al-Ayk, her peers,
and today she keeps company with death (ḥimām)—with the ḥāʾ vowelled i.
And today she is tamed, with the broken "Haa".
