تعلَّقْتُهُI fell in love with him منfrom among بنيthe sons of الأكرمينَthe noblest
تعلَّقْتُهُ من بني الأكرمينَ
رفيعlofty الذُّرىthe heights ذاpossessing سناًradiance وسناءِand glory
رفيع الذُّرى ذا سناً وسناءِ
I fell in love with him, a son of the noblest,
I have picked him out from amongst the noblest,
Of lofty heights, endowed with radiance and glory.
Exalted in lineage, aged yet still fresh.
يُذكِّرُنيreminds me طبعَهُhis nature رقةًin tenderness
يُذكِّرُني طبعَهُ رقةً
نسيبُlove poetry الهوىof love ونسيمُand the breeze الهواءِof the air
نسيبُ الهوى ونسيمُ الهواءِ
I am reminded of his tender nature
His gentle nature reminds me
By love's verse and the breeze of the air.
Of the beloved's tenderness and the breeze's gentleness.
وقدand indeed جَمَعَunited الحسنُbeauty فيهin him معalong with النبthe nobi- (beginning of 'nobility')
وقد جَمَعَ الحسنُ فيه مع النب
لِ-lity (completing 'nobility') نوراًradiance وطيبَand sweetness ذكاءِof musk's fragrance
لِ نوراً وطيبَ ذكاءِ
Beauty has united in him, along with nobility,
Beauty and prophecy he combines,
Radiance and the sweet scent of musk.
With brightness, fragrance and intelligence.
لهhe has كرمٌgenerosity وبهand in him عفَّةٌchastity
له كرمٌ وبه عفَّةٌ
فيجمعُso he unites بينَbetween الحياlife-giving rain والحياءِand modesty
فيجمعُ بينَ الحيا والحياءِ
Generosity is his, and chastity dwells in him,
He has generosity and modesty,
So he unites life-giving rain and modesty.
Bringing together life and shyness.
