No gathering equals ours, where there have been strung

necklaces around the necks of joy.

Al-Qurashi arrived there, as though he were

a moon, and the cups of wine were polar stars.

A gazelle whom God guarded with the beauty that

surpassed all charms—in it he is peerless.

Dark-lipped and sweetly nasal-voiced—when I speak of his splendor,

beauty's witnesses rise to attest it.

Joy was complete with him; and were it not for his presence,

no guide would have led us toward delight.
