O rider hastening on, convey
To Suʿda’s caravan a greeting from a yearning lover,
ذاpossessed of جوىًburning passion ناصبٍwearisome ودمعٍand tears خضيبٍstained red
ذا جوىً ناصبٍ ودمعٍ خضيبٍ
وحشاًand inward parts ذائبٍmelting وقلبٍand a heart خفوقfluttering
وحشاً ذائبٍ وقلبٍ خفوق
Possessed of wearying passion and tears stained red,
And melting vitals and a fluttering heart.

And their camels departed bearing a beauty
From among the sand’s fair idols, lovely in the canopied litters.

With morning and evening draughts of talk of them.

Enough as perfume for one who inhales is the fragrance
Of them; and talk of them is pure wine enough for me.
