يهالَ وبُرْدُها غُصْناً يراحَ
And a tender maiden whose waist-wrap held a dune
A beauty whose robe is wrapped around her like a dune,
of heaped sand, and whose mantle held a bough swaying in the breeze.
Swaying gently like a branch in the breeze.
لهاshe has قُلُبٌa bracelet أبىrefused النطقَto speak اكتتاماًto preserve secrecy
لها قُلُبٌ أبى النطقَ اكتتاماً
وسرُّand the secret نطاقِهاof her girdle أبداًforever مباحlaid bare
وسرُّ نطاقِها أبداً مباح
Her bracelet refused to speak, keeping her secret,
Her heart refuses to speak a word,
and her girdle’s secret is forever laid bare.
Keeping its secret forever unrevealed.

أطاعَ سوارُها وعصى الوشاح
She had commanded them both to keep silent, but
Though she commanded them both to stay silent,
her bracelet obeyed, and her sash disobeyed.
Her bracelet obeyed while her sash disobeyed.
