وروضةٍand a garden عاطرٍfragrant بنفسجُهاits violets

عطَّرهاperfumed it وشيُهاits embroidery وسندسُهاand its fine silk
عطَّرها وشيُها وسندسُها
And a garden whose violets are fragrant,
A meadow fragrant with its violets
Its embroidery and its fine silk perfumed it.
Scented by its myrrh, lilies and irises
لماwhen غَذَتْهاnourished it السحابُthe clouds دِرَّتهاtheir flowing milk
لما غَذَتْها السحابُ دِرَّتها
منfrom فوقِabove حوذانهاits buttercups ونرجسهاand its narcissi
من فوقِ حوذانها ونرجسها
When the clouds nourished it with their flowing milk

خافfeared عليهاfor it الغمامُthe clouds حادثةًa calamity
خاف عليها الغمامُ حادثةً
فسلَّso they drew سيفَthe sword البروقlightning flashes يحرسهاguarding it
فسلَّ سيفَ البروق يحرسها
The clouds feared some calamity might befall it,
The clouds feared for it a mishap
