And one month, to watch for its crescent, we turned

Our eyes, inclining toward the expanse of heaven,

Until a youth appeared, his eye-corners dark, his pupils black against bright whites,

Trailing the hems of youth’s mantles.

So I said to him, “A warm and gracious welcome

To a full moon whose traits hold the fragrance of wine!

Do eyes seek you in the sky, less than full,

While you walk thus upon the earth, complete?”
