إذا شِئتَ أن تَلقى عدوَّكَ راغِماً

إذا شِئتَ أن تَلقى عدوَّكَ راغِماً

وتَقتُلَه غمّاً وتُحرِقَهُ هَمّاً

وتَقتُلَه غمّاً وتُحرِقَهُ هَمّاً

If you wish to meet your enemy humbled,

If you want to overpower your enemy,

and kill him with grief and burn him with worry,

And kill him with grief and burn him with worry,

فسامِ للعُلى وازدَد منَ العلمِ إنّهُ

فسامِ للعُلى وازدَد منَ العلمِ إنّهُ

منِ ازداد عِلماً زادَ حاسدَهُ غَمّاً

منِ ازداد عِلماً زادَ حاسدَهُ غَمّاً

then aspire to the heights and grow in knowledge, for indeed,

Then seek the heights of knowledge and learn more,

whoever grows in knowledge increases his envier’s grief.

For he who increases his knowledge increases his envier's sorrow.
