وإنand if سَلِمواthey escape unharmed منfrom آفةٍa calamity فيon طريقهمtheir path
وإن سَلِموا من آفةٍ في طريقهم
يَعُدونَthey consider هاتيكَthat السلامةsafety مأثَماًa sin
يَعُدونَ هاتيكَ السلامة مأثَماً
Even if they escape an affliction along their path,
And if they escape a calamity on their path,
they count that very deliverance a sin.
they count that safety as a sin.
وإنand if أزمَةٌa crisis أزَمَتهمُgrips them طَرِبواthey rejoice لهاin it
وإن أزمَةٌ أزَمَتهمُ طَرِبوا لها
وأمسَتand it becomes لهمfor them عُرساًa wedding feast عظيماًgrand ومأتَماًand a mourning gathering
وأمسَت لهم عُرساً عظيماً ومأتَماً
But if their adversity grows severe, they rejoice in it,
And if a crisis grips them, they rejoice in it,
and it becomes for them a magnificent wedding feast—and a funeral gathering.
and it becomes for them a grand wedding feast and a mourning gathering.
