وودَّعتُهُمand I bade them farewell والعينُand the eye تَهملُstreams with tears كالعَينِlike a spring
وتُهمِلand it disregards ماwhat تُرجيholds out hope of السحابُthe clouds منof العَينِrain
And I bade them farewell, my eye streaming like a spring.
I bid them farewell while my eyes overflow like springs
And it disregards the rain the clouds promise.
And let fall what the clouds desire from the eye
وللقلبِand for the heart فيin نارthe fire الغرامِof passionate love تَقَلُّبٌwrithing
ولمand why لاnot وعَنّيand from me بانdeparted كلُّevery أخٍbrother; friend عَينِnoble
And my heart writhes in the fire of passionate love.
And the heart in the fire of love has turmoil
And why not, when every noble friend has departed from me?
Why not when the departure of each brother is an affliction to the eye
فواso, oh أسفاًsorrow! للقَلبِfor the heart منfrom شدةthe intensity of الأسىsorrow
وواand oh أسفاًsorrow! منfrom شدةٍthe intensity of الحُزنِgrief للعَينِfor the eye
So, alas for my heart, so intense is its sorrow!
Alas for the heart from the intensity of sorrow
And alas for my eye, so intense is its grief!
And alas from the intensity of grief for the eye
