And a cup, through his supplication, quenched the army's thirst,

and fruits, at the mention of the Chosen One, sated it.

And how many miracles he has, beyond all reckoning!

And how can the pebbles, the stars, and the rain be counted?

And if the God of all creation has praised him, what

can creatures say, whether few or many?

So, O Messenger of God, be an intercessor for a youth

whose lifetime has been wasted on his pleasures.

His shameful deeds came in succession, and there was no easing of

his terrors; his abominations came in succession.

He has confronted God with disobedience, immersed

in error, since his soul and evil led him astray.

His reason never restrained him, nor did piety

ever awe him; rather, blindness fostered him in desire.

He erred and blundered in speech and in deed,

and never once succeeded in good deeds worthy of regard.

And if a prompting summons him to good deeds,

he slackens; but if it calls him to evil, he hastens.

And if the calamities of time befall him,

he prays; but if they are lifted, wanton pride lures him astray.

His rulers are his soul and Satan, amid desire

through which his piety's fortune falls and stumbles.

Who but you will have mercy on this servant,

O best of those to whom nomads and townsfolk have turned?

If you do not, O Messenger of God, rescue me

from what I have committed, how else can I offer an excuse?

Far be it from you, far be it from you, O my master, to neglect me,

while I turn to you for refuge, and afflictions are mine.
