And a woman gazing beneath the fold of her veil—

a caller summoned her to God and goodness.

She went with her son, seeking a dwelling

for continued ascetic devotion and seclusion.

And she made a circuit of its grounds,

and spring settled in those lands.

So she came swaying gently, like a tender mother,

watching over a gazelle atop a lofty hill.

She came to us, strutting as she walked,

then alighted in a valley teeming with beasts of prey.

And she took fright, fearing for her child,

so I called, "Lady, have no fear!

Your gazelle is feared by lions,

and champions of combat flee from him."

Then she turned away, and musk from her hem

left a line on the ground like a serpent's back.
