إذا ذكرت أمداح مجد محمد

إذا ذكرت أمداح مجد محمد

فنشر فتيق المسك والند ينفح

فنشر فتيق المسك والند ينفح

When praises of Muhammad's glory are spoken,

When the praises of the glory of Muhammad are remembered

Then the scent of unsealed musk and incense wafts forth.

The fragrance of musk and moist ambergris spreads

وإن تلَيت آيات فخر علائه

وإن تلَيت آيات فخر علائه

فأطيار دوح الشوق والوجد تصدح

فأطيار دوح الشوق والوجد تصدح

And if verses of his exalted glory are recited,

And when the verses of the pride of his eminence are recited

Then the birds in the great trees of longing and rapture sing aloud.

The birds in the abode of yearning and passion cry out

لذكر جلال الهاشمي محمد

لذكر جلال الهاشمي محمد

تميل قلوب العاشقين وتجنح

تميل قلوب العاشقين وتجنح

At the mention of the majesty of Muhammad the Hashimite,

For the mention of the majesty of the Hashimi, Muhammad

The hearts of lovers sway and incline.

The hearts of lovers lean and bend

وكلّ محب إن سرى ذكر حبّه

وكلّ محب إن سرى ذكر حبّه

يميل كما مال النزيف المرنح

يميل كما مال النزيف المرنح

And every lover, when mention of his beloved spreads,

And every lover, when the remembrance of his love flows

Sways as a reeling drunkard sways.

Inclines as the swaying, bending palm tree sways

وتبدو عليه عند ذاك شواهدٌ

وتبدو عليه عند ذاك شواهدٌ

وكلّ إناء بالذي فيه يرشح

وكلّ إناء بالذي فيه يرشح

And signs appear upon him at that moment;

And upon it then appear tokens

And every vessel exudes what it contains.

And every vessel exudes what is within it

إذا كمنت في القلب نارُ محبّة

إذا كمنت في القلب نارُ محبّة

فزند جواها بالتذكر يقدح

فزند جواها بالتذكر يقدح

When a fire of love lies hidden in the heart,

When the fire of love lies hidden in the heart

Then the fire-stick of its ardor is struck by remembrance.

Its embers are kindled by remembrance

ألا صرحوا في حبّه بوداده

ألا صرحوا في حبّه بوداده

فليس محباً من بوجد يلوح

فليس محباً من بوجد يلوح

Come, openly declare your affection in your love for him!

Come now, profess your devotion and affection for him

For he is no lover who merely hints at his ardor.

One who does not show fervor cannot be called a lover

وقوموا لدى ذكر النبيّ تواضعاً

وقوموا لدى ذكر النبيّ تواضعاً

ففي كفّه الحصباءُ أضحت تسبحُ

ففي كفّه الحصباءُ أضحت تسبحُ

And stand humbly when the Prophet is mentioned,

And stand in humility at the mention of the Prophet

For in his palm the pebbles began to glorify God.

For pebbles in his palm have come to glorify

إذا ذكرت أمداح فخر ذوى الدنا

إذا ذكرت أمداح فخر ذوى الدنا

أرى كلّ نفس بالتخدّم تسمح

أرى كلّ نفس بالتخدّم تسمح

When praises of the glory of worldly folk are spoken,

When the praises of the pride of the best of creation are recalled

I see every soul willingly offering service.

I see every soul showing humility in service

فكيف بذكرى من طما بحر فخره

فكيف بذكرى من طما بحر فخره

وكلّ وجيه فيه قد ظلّ يسبَحُ

وكلّ وجيه فيه قد ظلّ يسبَحُ

Then what of remembering him whose sea of glory overflows,

So how about the mention of one whose sea of pride

While every man of distinction keeps swimming in it?

Has made every eminent one continue to swim?

نبىء لواء الحمد في الجشر ظلّه

نبىء لواء الحمد في الجشر ظلّه

وكل نبيّ تحتهُ ليس يبرح

وكل نبيّ تحتهُ ليس يبرح

A prophet whose shade at the Gathering is the Banner of Praise,

The banner of praise was planted in glory’s enclosure

And every prophet beneath it never departs.

And every prophet remains beneath it, unmoving

سبى الإنس والأملاك والجنّ حبّه

سبى الإنس والأملاك والجنّ حبّه

فكلّ له شوقٌ إليه مبرح

فكلّ له شوقٌ إليه مبرح

Love for him has captivated humankind, the angels, and the jinn,

He captivated mankind, jinn, and angels with his love

So each has an agonizing longing for him.

And so every one of them has an ardent desire for him

فأهلا بقوم إن جرى ذكر أحمد

فأهلا بقوم إن جرى ذكر أحمد

يرى لهمُ عند السماع ترنّح

يرى لهمُ عند السماع ترنّح

So welcome to those who, when Ahmad is mentioned,

Welcome then to a people, if the mention of Ahmad flows

Are seen swaying as they listen.

You will see them, when hearing it, yearning

فطيبوا بذكر الهاشمي محمد

فطيبوا بذكر الهاشمي محمد

وجولوا بنادي ساحة الوجد واسرحوا

وجولوا بنادي ساحة الوجد واسرحوا

So rejoice in remembering Muhammad the Hashimite,

So delight in the mention of the Hashimi, Muhammad

And wander through the gathering in rapture's courtyard, and roam freely.

And roam the field of passion, and wander

فما العيش إلا بالحبيب وذكره

فما العيش إلا بالحبيب وذكره

ودَع كلّ ذي غيّ عن الحق يجمح

ودَع كلّ ذي غيّ عن الحق يجمح

For life is only with the beloved and in remembering him;

For there is no life except with the beloved and his remembrance

And leave every erring one who bolts away from the truth.

And leave everyone who stubbornly resists the truth

عليه سلام اللَه ما أذكت النوى

عليه سلام اللَه ما أذكت النوى

له نار شوقٍ بالجوانح تلفح

له نار شوقٍ بالجوانح تلفح

Upon him be God's peace, so long as separation kindles

Peace be upon him as long as the stars rotate

A fire of longing for him that scorches within the ribs.

For his remembrance kindles a fire burning in hearts
