لأحمدَ تعنو الأقمار

لأحمدَ تعنو الأقمار

فعدّه فخارهُ

To Ahmad the moons bow.

Count that among his glories.

وأنظم ثناهُ أشعار

وأنظم ثناهُ أشعار

ولازِم وقارَه

ولازِم وقارَه

I compose poems in his praise

and hold fast to reverence for him.

لأحمدَ بدر الأفق

وشمس المعالي

وشمس المعالي

Ahmad is the moon of the horizon

and the sun of lofty virtues.

تأجّجُ نار الشوق

تأجّجُ نار الشوق

وكيف احتيالي

وكيف احتيالي

The fire of longing blazes;

what can I do?

لئن فازَ أهلُ السبق

لئن فازَ أهلُ السبق

بذاك الكمال

بذاك الكمال

Though those who went before have won

that perfection,

وحلوا بهاتيك الدار

وحلوا بهاتيك الدار

وحازوا جوارهُ

وحازوا جوارهُ

settled in that abode

and gained his nearness,

ففي القلب نار الأفكار

ففي القلب نار الأفكار

قد أذكت أوارَه

قد أذكت أوارَه

a fire of thoughts burns in my heart;

they have fed its flame.

حادي الركب بلّغ عنّى

حادي الركب بلّغ عنّى

سلاماً أثيرا

سلاماً أثيرا

Caravan guide, convey from me

a cherished greeting,

وقُل مغرمٌ ذو حزان

وقُل مغرمٌ ذو حزان

قد أضحى أسيرا

قد أضحى أسيرا

and say: a lover burdened with sorrow

has become a captive.

أصمَته سهام البين

أصمَته سهام البين

لم يلف نصيرا

لم يلف نصيرا

The arrows of separation have struck him silent;

he has found no helper.

وقد أبعدته الأقدار

وقد أبعدته الأقدار

والحزن أثارَه

والحزن أثارَه

Fate has kept him far away

and stirred his grief.

في القلب ثنائي الأقطار

في القلب ثنائي الأقطار

يضرم نارَه

يضرم نارَه

In my heart, my praise across the lands

kindles its fire.

إذا لاح لمعُ البَرقِ

إذا لاح لمعُ البَرقِ

من أكنافِ نجدِ

من أكنافِ نجدِ

When a flash of lightning appears

from the reaches of Najd,

دعأني إليه شوقي

دعأني إليه شوقي

وإفراطُ وجدى

وإفراطُ وجدى

my longing calls me toward it,

as does the force of my yearning.

إلى قبر خيرِ الخلقِ

إلى قبر خيرِ الخلقِ

سأجهَدُ جهدي

سأجهَدُ جهدي

Toward the grave of the best of creation

I will strive with all my strength,

لعلّيَ أقضى الأوطار

لعلّيَ أقضى الأوطار

وأُعطي مزارَه

وأُعطي مزارَه

hoping to fulfill my desire

and be granted a visit to him.

فعَنّى تمحى الأوزارُ

فعَنّى تمحى الأوزارُ

إذا زُرتُ دارَه

إذا زُرتُ دارَه

Then my sins may be erased

when I visit his abode.

يا حادي شوقيَ زمزِم

يا حادي شوقيَ زمزِم

بذكر الحبيب

بذكر الحبيب

O guide of my longing, chant

the beloved’s name.

ويا حرّ وجديَ ضرّم

ويا حرّ وجديَ ضرّم

نيرانَ الوجيب

نيرانَ الوجيب

O heat of my yearning, stoke

the fires of my pounding heart.

يا دمعَ عينيَ أرقُم

يا دمعَ عينيَ أرقُم

بخدّ الكئيب

بخدّ الكئيب

O tears of my eyes, inscribe

upon the sorrowful one’s cheek

رسومَ سطور التذكار

رسومَ سطور التذكار

لربعِ أنارَه

لربعِ أنارَه

the lines of remembrance

of an abode illuminated by

سنا نور وجهِ المختار

سنا نور وجهِ المختار

فأعلى منارَه

فأعلى منارَه

the radiance of the Chosen One’s face,

which raised its beacon high.

أيا ربّ بالمختار

أيا ربّ بالمختار

والصحب الكرام

والصحب الكرام

O Lord, by the Chosen One

and his noble companions,

قرّب قربَ نائي الدار

قرّب قربَ نائي الدار

من ذاك المقام

من ذاك المقام

bring one who lives far away near

to that place.

واغفر قول ذي إصرار

واغفر قول ذي إصرار

غنّى في هيام

غنّى في هيام

Forgive the words of one who persists,

singing in rapture,

من يورين دار العطار

من يورين دار العطار

بدرب المنارَه

بدرب المنارَه

from Yurin, the perfumer’s house,

on Minaret Lane.

ثيابي وما تحوى الدار

ثيابي وما تحوى الدار

نعطهِ مال البشارَه

نعطهِ مال البشارَه

My clothes and all the house contains:

we will give him the reward for good tidings.
