    يبلغ المشتاق غايات المنى

    Through the pouring of tears, O sworn companion of fidelity,

    the longing lover attains the utmost of his desires.

    عل سح الدمع يدنيك لنا

    So pour out streaming tears without cease;

    perhaps their downpour will draw you near to us.

    فاسقها بالدمع تظفر بالجنى

    The sighs for nearness to us have grown thirsty;

    so water them with tears, and you will win the fruit.

    وانتشق زهر المنى من أنسنا

    Soothe your soul with the fragrance of our tenderness,

    and breathe in the blossoms of desire from our intimacy.

    في طلول دراسات المنحنى

    Stand as one stands who has lost his loved ones,

    among the effaced ruins at the bend.

    And weep for what you squandered of your life gone by,

    and spend all it holds in sorrow for us.

    And cast aside—woe to you!—in scorn a remnant

    whose outlines the hand of annihilation has embroidered.

    كم تطيل في طلابنا العنا

    Halt the camel-litters and caravan with us;

    how long will you prolong the toil of seeking us?

    بالصب بالجوى قد أعلنا

    The longing lover has openly declared his burning longing for us;

    we have openly proclaimed the love-stricken one and his burning longing.

    The fire of longing has set his entrails ablaze,

    and sorrows have driven drowsiness away from him.

    What ails the one who has spent the night lamenting his longing,

    yet has departed from the dwellings of our intimacy?

    How often we called him, yet he did not answer, nor

    did his yearnings ever camp with us.

    No—by the sanctity of what we bestowed on you of

    the pure draught of love—you have not dealt fairly with us.

    So draw near to us and seek refuge in our might,

    and cling, O faithless one, to our gates.

    For the gusts of favor have a time of fulfillment,

    in which the fearful one is safe from what he has done.
