تنعّم بذكر الهاشمي محمد
ففيfor in ذكرهhis remembrance العيشlife المهنأblissful والأنسُand solace
ففي ذكره العيش المهنأ والأنسُ
Take delight in remembering Muhammad the Hashimite.
Rejoice in mentioning Hashimi Muhammad
For in his remembrance lie a blissful life and solace.
For in his mention is pleasant living and intimacy
أياO شادياًa singer يشدوsings بأمداحwith praises of أحمدAhmad
أيا شادياً يشدو بأمداح أحمد
سماعكhearing you طبّa remedy ليسnot يعقبهfollows it نكسa relapse
سماعك طبّ ليس يعقبه نكس
O singer who sings the praises of Ahmad,
O singer, sing praises of Ahmad
Hearing you is a remedy followed by no relapse.
Hearing you is healing, followed by no sorrow
فكرّرso repeat رعاكmay he watch over you اللَهGod ذكرthe remembrance of محمدMuhammad
فكرّر رعاك اللَه ذكر محمد
فقدfor indeed لذّتhave found delight الأسماعthe ears وارتاحتand has found rest النفسthe soul
فقد لذّت الأسماع وارتاحت النفس
So repeat the remembrance of Muhammad—may God watch over you.
So repeat, may Allah protect you, the mention of Muhammad
For the ears have found delight, and the soul has found rest.
For the ears have enjoyed and the soul rested
وطابand has grown sweet نعيمthe bliss of العيشlife واتصلand continued unbroken المنىwishes
وطاب نعيم العيش واتصل المنى
وأقبلتand have come الأفراحthe joys وانتعشand has revived الحسّthe senses
وأقبلت الأفراح وانتعش الحسّ
And life's bliss has grown sweet, and wishes have followed one another.
And the pleasure of life was wholesome and wishes fulfilled
And joys have come, and the senses have revived.
And joys came and senses revived
ألاtake heed فاسمعواthen listen فخراًa source of pride تأثلtook root مجدهhis glory
ألا فاسمعوا فخراً تأثل مجده
وقدand indeed عزّis difficult أنto يلقىbe found لهfor him فيamong الورىhumankind جنسُan equal
وقد عزّ أن يلقى له في الورى جنسُ
Listen, then, to a source of pride whose glory is firmly rooted,
Listen to the pride whose glory amazes
And whose equal is scarcely to be found among humankind.
Too noble to find a match in the world
لقدindeed عجزتhave failed عنfrom أنto تحيطencompass بوصفهwith his description
لقد عجزت عن أن تحيط بوصفه
وأمداحهand his praises الأقلامthe pens والنفسand the soul والطرسand the page
وأمداحه الأقلام والنفس والطرس
Indeed, they have failed to encompass his qualities
The pens, soul and pages fell short
And his praises—the pens, the soul, and the page.
To encompass describing him and his praises
أياO سامعيhearers of ذكرthe remembrance of الحبيبthe beloved تأهبواprepare yourselves
أيا سامعي ذكر الحبيب تأهبوا
وقومواand rise بناwith us نشكوwe lament فقدfor indeed سامناhas afflicted us اليأسdespair
وقوموا بنا نشكو فقد سامنا اليأس
O hearers of the beloved's remembrance, prepare yourselves.
O listeners of the beloved's mention be ready
And rise with us to lament, for despair has afflicted us,
And stand, let us complain, for desperation has befallen us
وقوفاًstanding علىon الأقدامthe feet فيin حقّhonor due to سيدa master
وقوفاً على الأقدام في حقّ سيد
تعظّمُهُexalt him الأملاكthe angels والجنّand the jinn والإنسand humankind
تعظّمُهُ الأملاك والجنّ والإنس
Standing upon our feet in honor of a master
Standing with legs upright, rightfully for the Master
Whom the angels, the jinn, and humankind exalt.
Revered by angels, jinn and mankind
وتعنوand bow لهto him الأفلاكthe celestial spheres عزّاin honor وهيبةًand awe
وتعنو له الأفلاك عزّا وهيبةً
إذاwhen ماemphasis بداhe appears والنجمand the star والبدرand the full moon والشمسand the sun
إذا ما بدا والنجم والبدر والشمس
And the celestial spheres bow before him in honor and awe,
The orbits venerate him with honor and awe
Whenever he appears—the star, the full moon, and the sun bow too.
When the stars, moon and sun appear
وتشتاقand yearn for ذكراهremembrance of him النفوسthe souls فتنثنىthen sway
وتشتاق ذكراه النفوس فتنثنى
بأطرابهاwith their raptures سكراًin intoxication وماجنّهاand has not maddened them كأسa cup
بأطرابها سكراً وماجنّها كأس
And souls yearn for his remembrance, then sway
And souls yearn for his mention, bending
In their raptures, intoxicated, though no cup has maddened them.
Intoxicated with ecstasy, stirred by his wine
فياso, O جملةall العشاقthe lovers أينwhere ولوعُكمyour ardor
فيا جملة العشاق أين ولوعُكم
فشهرتكمfor your renown فيin حبهlove for him ماnot بهاin it بأسharm
فشهرتكم في حبه ما بها بأس
So, all you lovers, where is your ardor?
O lovers, where is your passion
For there is no harm in your being known for loving him.
Your fame in loving him is no slight thing
ألاtake heed فاطربواthen rejoice أنساًin solace بحبthrough love of محمدMuhammad
ألا فاطربوا أنساً بحب محمد
فقدfor indeed لاحتhave shone forth الأنوارthe lights وارتفعand has lifted اللبسconfusion
فقد لاحت الأنوار وارتفع اللبس
Come, then, rejoice in the solace of loving Muhammad,
Rejoice with the love of Muhammad
For the lights have shone forth, and confusion has lifted.
For the lights have appeared and confusion lifted
فكلّfor everyone لهfor him عرسٌa wedding feast بذكرin remembering حبيبهhis beloved
فكلّ له عرسٌ بذكر حبيبه
ونحنand we بذكرin remembering الهاشميthe Hashimite لناfor us عرسa wedding feast
ونحن بذكر الهاشمي لنا عرس
For everyone has a wedding feast in remembering his beloved,
For him, each has a wedding with his beloved's mention
And we have a wedding feast in remembering the Hashimite.
And we, with Hashimi's mention, have our wedding
