Take the tale of my passion from my body's wasting.

Love's tongue has made my eloquent tears needless.

And tell me about my heart and its master,

For sometimes the meaning eludes the discerning.

    أَما ترى عينَه ملأَى من الوَسَن

    This is the one who stole the lovers' sleep;

Do you not see his eye brimming with drowsiness?

My passion for that figure now makes me imagine

That the east wind's languor is longing for the bough.

I see the delegations filling the dwellings of bounty,

After they had halted at those dwellings' ruined traces.

A people: when they argue in defense of their neighbor's grazing herd,

The tongues of supple Khatt spears speak.
