O Hind, who will aid a brother of passion? Never has there flashed
O Hind, who did my brother fall in love with
the lightning of smiling mouths before his eye without that eye streaming with tears.
The flash of weapons was aimed at him continuously
أَبكتهmade him weep شَيْبتُهhis gray hair وهلand is there منany عارضٍa cloud
أَبكته شَيْبتُه وهل من عارضٍ

شِمْتُ البوارقَ فيه إِلاّ أَمطرا
His gray hair made him weep—and has any cloud
His greying hair made me weep, was there anyone to blame
whose lightning I watched ever failed to rain?
I saw the lightening flash through it continuously

رَكْضُ الزمان أَثار العِثْيَرا
Do not disdain the whiteness whose gray flecks I have donned;
Do not deny it, O radiant one, I wore ragged clothes
time’s gallop has stirred up the dust.
The passage of time left only traces
