How many a devout woman in the churches,

like an oryx, adorned by modesty!

Each one prostrating herself before her icon—

were the icons just, they would prostrate themselves before her.

A holy woman, whose shoulder's sinew

is long, while her girdle is short.

Modesty planted on the expanse of her cheek

roses whose branches the gaze watered.

And her eyelids spoke for her; so if you

conversed with her, her eyes' beauty would answer you.

And her robes resembled her tresses,

so a moon showed you a twofold night.
