وهنا فأجابته شجون وحرق
The caller of melodies knocked on longing's door-ring
Late at night, and sorrows and burning griefs answered him.

لو أسمع صخرة لخرت طربا
منfrom نغمتهhis melody فكيفthen what of قطنcotton وخرقand rags
من نغمته فكيف قطن وخرق
Had he made a rock hear, it would have fallen in rapture
From his melody—what, then, of cotton and rags?
