I see keen swords being drawn in glances.
When did these pupils turn into swords?

Woe to me from eyes that seldom glance
Without turning away from one slain, with no spark of life.

O friend, leave me to what you condemn in my passion.
The company has departed; my heart is fearful in their wake.

On its heat, lovers’ souls would never have loved.

She smiled—while parting bared love’s pain—in wonder
At an anguish beneath which the vitals burn.

Indeed, the noble man is bound to the days of youth.

كذلك العيش فيه الصَّفو والرنَقُ
I have kept my life company, joyful and dejected;
Such is life: in it are clarity and murk.

And I lived, opening doors and closing them,
Until lofty honors bore me up, with no lock barring them.

The summits of resolves whose very night-rest is swift riding.

And can a fugitive from his sun fear the dark?
