The generosity of Shams al-Din, shaykh

The sanctuary, my master Attaghi

of the Sanctuary, the master, is my liberation.

Every day we are from it

كل يوم نحن منه

كل يوم نحن منه

في اصطباح واغتباقي

في اصطباح واغتباقي

Each day, thanks to him, we partake

In the morning and evening gatherings

of morning and evening draughts.

And gardens where we sat

ورياض اجلستنا

ورياض اجلستنا

من شذاها في رواق

من شذاها في رواق

And gardens have seated us

Whose fragrance is in the corridor

in a portico of their fragrance.

And the assembly of a Lord without fear

واجتماع رب لا روعت

واجتماع رب لا روعت

منه بالفراق

منه بالفراق

And fellowship—Lord, may I never be frightened

Of separation from Him

by parting from it.

And friends like the pipes of the canal

ورفاق كأنابيب القنا

ورفاق كأنابيب القنا

ذات اتساق

ذات اتساق

And companions like spear-shaft segments,

In harmony

in harmonious alignment.

All are sweet in their jest

كلهم حلو فكاها

كلهم حلو فكاها

ت العلا حلو المذاق

ت العلا حلو المذاق

Each is sweet in the pleasantries

The sublime is sweet tasting

of nobility, sweet to the taste.

And his hands which

وإياديه التي

وإياديه التي

منها على الدهر بواقي

منها على الدهر بواقي

And his favors, of which

From it for eternity flowing

some endure through the ages—

No matter how much I express my gratitude

انا مهما اطلقت شكري

انا مهما اطلقت شكري

من نداها في وثاق

من نداها في وثاق

I, however freely I let loose my thanks,

From its generosity it is binding

am bound by their bounty.
