والقصد يردني إلى باب غناك
O Lord, how often I seek someone other than You through poetry,
O Lord, to whom but You does my poetry aspire?
Yet that seeking brings me back to the door of Your abundance.
My purpose leads me back to sing Your praise.

قد صوح نيتها اغثني بنداك
O You whose dust I have made my forelock,
O You who made my forehead from the dust,
Its intention has already withered; help me with Your dew.
My pure intention begs Your mercy's rays.
