I am the forsaker of homelands, the wanderer who
I am the one who left homelands and migrated
Tracked love's caravan in a tracker's guise.
The caravan of love walked in muddy roads

كأني مخلوق لطي النفانف
And I have kept traversing wilderness after wilderness,
And I'm still folding a kerchief after a kerchief
As though I were created to traverse the wastes.
As if I was created to fold kerchiefs

بكل مكان حله كل طائف
So do not reproach me if you see my writing
So don't blame me if you see my writing
In every place where any wayfarer has stayed.
In every place I settled in

Perhaps the one for whose parting I forsook my life,
Perhaps the one I parted from to live far away
And for whom I exhausted my long-held wealth before my new gains,
And whom I bid farewell before the separation

Will be driven by the days to a land where I have stayed—
The days will make him settle a land I settled
Indeed, the days are but paths of hardship.
Although the days are ways of life's troubles

فيعطف تحوي غصن تلك المعاطف
Then Time dictates to me what I have written,
So time will recite to me what I have written
And the bough of those curving forms bends toward me.
And turn to shelter the branch of those troubles
