You rose with a face before which the towering height of tyranny

وعدت تجر الذيل كل بنائه

إليك وكل واقف يتخضع
You returned, trailing your robe's hem; every builder of it [unclear reference]
And you came dragging the train of its entire structure
turns toward you, and everyone standing humbles himself.
To you, and every stationary one bows down
وعرضكand your honor موفورintact ووفركand your wealth دونهin its defense
وعرضك موفور ووفرك دونه
كتدبيرlike the scheming of حسادthe enviers of الاميرthe prince مضيعsquandered

Your honor is intact, while your wealth, in its defense,
Your abundance is plentiful and your plenty beneath it
is squandered, like the schemes of the prince's enviers.
Like the management of the jealous prince is lost
وكمand how many صدfirst fragment of 'blows' ماتremaining fragment of 'blows' قامstood مجدكyour glory دونهاagainst them
وكم صد مات قام مجدك دونها

وحالك في الجلى كحالك قبلها
وقيتyou were shielded الردىdeath منwhoever اروىquenched thirst (uncertain reading) لاnot يروعis frightened
وقيت الردى من اروى لا يروع
Your condition in the great ordeal is as it was before it.
And your state among the glorious is like your state before it
You were shielded from death; whoever quenched thirst is not frightened [uncertain reading].
You warded off vileness from the most quenching without being frightened
فخاركافقyour glory is a horizon ليسis not يخفىhidden ضياؤهits radiance
فخاركافق ليس يخفى ضياؤه
وشمسand the sun الضحىof forenoon منfrom ذلكthat الافقhorizon تطالعlooks out
وشمس الضحى من ذلك الافق تطالع
Your glory is a horizon whose radiance is not hidden,
So your superiority matches, its light cannot be concealed
and the forenoon sun looks out from that horizon.
And the sun of the morning from that horizon rises

إذا أجدبت أرض دعتك فعمها

سحاب ندى عن مثله تتقشع
When a land grows barren, it calls you; then over it spreads
If a land is stricken with drought, it calls you so its barrenness
a cloud of bounty, before whose like other clouds disperse.
Is clouded with dew that evaporates from its like
كأنas though لديكin your keeping المالwealth يمسىbecomes at evening ودائعاdeposits held in trust
كأن لديك المال يمسى ودائعا
إذاif ماconditional emphasis بقيit remains حتىuntil عليهاamong them يوزعit is distributed
إذا ما بقي حتى عليها يوزع
As though wealth in your keeping becomes entrusted deposits by evening,
As if you own the money that becomes deposits by evening
if any remains, until it is distributed among them.
When there is nothing left for it to be distributed
علىupon وجهكyour face البسامthe smiling مناfrom us تحيةa greeting
على وجهك البسام منا تحية
تقيمit abides معwith النعمىgood fortune وانand if سرتyou travel تنبعit springs forth
تقيم مع النعمى وان سرت تنبع
Upon your smiling face, a greeting from us,
Upon your smiling face greetings from us
abiding with good fortune, and springing forth if you travel.
That establish along with bliss even if they spring from pain
عرينكyour den مأمونsecure وشيلكand your load (uncertain form) فيin حمىprotected ground
عرينك مأمون وشيلك في حمى
وغصنكand your branch ميادswaying وواديكand your valley مروعterrifying
وغصنك مياد وواديك مروع
Your den is secure, and your load is sheltered [uncertain word],
Your den is safe and your shelter protected
your branch sways, and your valley inspires fear.
