Whether I'm angry or content, my beloved
And counting sins against me is itself sinful.
Though my sins be many, sins remain

I'm a rose whose beloved branch
And its breeze is fragrant above people's heads.
Whose breeze above heads makes fragrant

The meadow's wildlings circled my robes
So why is someone like me reviled among you?
Why am I, unlike others, blamed?

In love I have a nature disobeying passion
And repents, then returns, then repents.
Alternately tending and forsaking

Passion has taken its toll on me and softened my side,
Passion won me, to which my side leaned
Yet the stem of youth is tall and strong.
Yet the staff of youth is stiff

Yearns, though I hadn't called, to answer

For a noble man is quick to anger at another noble man.
Nobility to nobility feels ire

Or is each cousin to you a kinsman?

And I say: your listening to them is truly astonishing.
And say: if you listen to them, you're lost

Scars deep within the parchment of hearts.

A shadow is more constant than their greatest man's affection;
My love for them is firmer than their love for me
And if you seek to shake him, he is a bare palm stalk.
If you seek it, it trembles like a withered leaf

My right hand drew you; do not betray it
And an arm-span wide with loyalty turned you back.
And one sold you, though bounteous and open!

O brother, awake! Our cowardice reproaches
Among us, and no noble man has broken the covenant.

Do not punish one who is usually right for his mistake;
Make not the archer's error his punishment
For right judgment vanishes, just as it comes to light.
Since right, as it shines clear, can disappear
