أَخطَأتَyou erred ياO دَهرُTime فيin تَفَرُّقِناour separation
أَخطَأتَ يا دَهرُ في تَفَرُّقِنا
وَيحَكَwoe to you تُبrepent بَعدَهاafter it وَلاand do not تَعُدِdo it again
وَيحَكَ تُب بَعدَها وَلا تَعُدِ
You erred, O Time, in separating us.
O time, you erred in parting us,
Woe to you! Repent after this, and do not do it again.
And you regret it afterwards but do not return.
ياO شُرُّShurr بِاللَهِby God أَخِّريdelay أَجَليmy appointed end
يا شُرُّ بِاللَهِ أَخِّري أَجَلي
لاdo not تَقتُلينيkill me بِالهَمِّwith worry وَالكَمَدِand grief
لا تَقتُليني بِالهَمِّ وَالكَمَدِ
O Shurr, by God, delay my death.
O evil one, for God's sake delay my death,
Do not kill me with worry and grief.
Do not kill me with anxiety and suppression.
ماwhat ليwith me أَرىI see اللَيلَthe night لاno صَباحَdawn لَهُfor it
ما لي أَرى اللَيلَ لا صَباحَ لَهُ
ماnot الهَجرُestrangement إِلّاexcept لَيلٌa night بِغَيرِwithout غَدِtomorrow
ما الهَجرُ إِلّا لَيلٌ بِغَيرِ غَدِ
Why do I see the night without a dawn?
Why do I see the night that has no morning?
Estrangement is but a night without tomorrow.
Separation is but a night with no tomorrow.
ياO جامِعَyou who unite الهَجرِestrangement وَالفِراقِand separation أَلاwill you not
يا جامِعَ الهَجرِ وَالفِراقِ أَلا
تَجمَعُunite بَينَbetween الفوآدِthe heart وَالجَسَدِand the body
تَجمَعُ بَينَ الفوآدِ وَالجَسَدِ
O you who unite estrangement and separation, will you not
O gatherer of separation and parting, will you not
unite the heart and the body?
