ماwhat بالُthe matter with لَيلىmy night لاnot يُرىis seen فَجرُهُits dawn
ما بالُ لَيلى لا يُرى فَجرُهُ
وَماand why لِدَمعيwith my tears دَإِماًalways قَطرُهُtheir dripping
وَما لِدَمعي دَإِماً قَطرُهُ
What is the matter with my night, that its dawn is not seen?
What has overcome Leila, her dawn unseen,
And why are my tears always dripping?
My tears forever streaming.
أَستَودِعُI entrust اللَهَGod حَبيباًa beloved نَأىhas gone far away
أَستَودِعُ اللَهَ حَبيباً نَأى
ميعادُthe appointed time دَمعيmy tears أَبَداًalways ذِكرُهُremembering him
ميعادُ دَمعي أَبَداً ذِكرُهُ
I entrust to God a beloved who has gone far away.
I entrust to God a beloved now gone,
Remembering him is always the appointed time for my tears.
Always I weep remembering him.
