ماwhat بالُis the matter with قَلبِكَyour heart لاnot يَقَرُّgrows still خُفوقاًthrobbing

وَأَراكَand I see you تَرعىwatch النِسرَal-Nasr (the Vulture star) وَالعُيّوقاand Capella
What ails your heart, that it will not cease throbbing?
Why does your heart not settle, restless?
And I see you watching al-Nasr and Capella.
I see you shepherd the eagles and deer,
وَجُفونُand the eyelids عَينِكَof your eye قَدindeed نَثَرنَthey have scattered مِنَfrom البُكاweeping
فَوقَover المَدامِعِthe tear ducts لُؤلُؤًpearls وَعَقيقاand carnelian
And the lids of your eye have scattered, through weeping,
Yet your eyelids have scattered pearls
pearls and carnelian over the tear ducts.
and rubies over the tears.
لَوif لَمnot يَكُنwere إِنسانُthe pupil عَينِكَof your eye سابِحاًa swimmer
فيin بَحرِthe sea of دَمعَتِهِits tear لَماتَit would have died غَريقاby drowning
If the pupil of your eye were not a swimmer
If the human in your eyes were not swimming
in the sea of its tears, it would have perished by drowning.
in the sea of his tears, he would have drowned.
