وَقَدand already جَفاhas neglected حُسنَهُhis beauty وَزينَتَهand his adornment
وَقَد جَفا حُسنَهُ وَزينَتَه
What ails my beloved, listless in thought?
Why is my beloved melancholy in thought
And he has neglected his beauty and adornment.
Though his beauty and adornment have faded
وَالصُدغُand the temple-lock قَدalready صَدَّhas turned away عَنfrom مَحاسِنِهِhis lovely features
وَالصُدغُ قَد صَدَّ عَن مَحاسِنِهِ

كَصَولَجانٍ يَرُدُّ ضَربَتَه
And his temple-lock has turned away from his lovely features,
And his cheek has repelled his charms
Like a polo mallet that turns back its stroke.
Like a smooth rock that deflects its blow

وَجِسمُهُand his body رَبِّmy Lord فَاِشفِso heal عِلَّتَهhis ailment
وَجِسمُهُ رَبِّ فَاِشفِ عِلَّتَه
Do you think he has fallen ill—he whose love is ours,
Do you think his illness comes from his love for me
And whose body is ours? My Lord, then heal his ailment.
O Lord, heal his body of its affliction
أَساخِطاًis he displeased? لاnot أُديمُI prolong سُخطَتَهhis displeasure
أَساخِطاً لا أُديمُ سُخطَتَه

أَو سائِلاً لا أَرُدُّ حاجَتَه
Is he displeased? I will not prolong his displeasure,
Whether he is angry, I will not endure his anger
Or seeking a favor? I will not refuse his request.
Or asking, I will not grant his request
