ضَحِكَlaughed الوَردُthe rose فيat قَفاthe back of المَنثورِthe stock flower
ضَحِكَ الوَردُ في قَفا المَنثورِ
وَاِستَرَحناand we found relief مِنfrom رِعدَةِthe shivering of المَقرورِthe cold-stricken person
وَاِستَرَحنا مِن رِعدَةِ المَقرورِ
The rose laughed in the wake of the stock flower.
The rose laughed in the palm's blossoming crown,
And we found relief from the shivering of the cold-stricken.
And we rested from the roar of heavy rain.
وَاِستَطَبناand we found pleasant المَقيلَthe noonday rest فيin بَردِthe coolness of ظِلٍّshade
وَاِستَطَبنا المَقيلَ في بَردِ ظِلٍّ
وَشَمَمناand we smelled الرَيحانَthe basil بِالكافورِwith camphor
وَشَمَمنا الرَيحانَ بِالكافورِ
And we relished the noonday rest in the coolness of shade.
We enjoyed the afternoon's coolness in the shade,
And we smelled basil with camphor.
And smelled the jasmine with camphor again.

And mingle the greenery, and mix the wine with snow,
Mix the plants and mix the winds with snow,
and quench with water the fire of the midday heat.
And quench the blaze of ardent fire.
