The longing of a thirsty man bound in ropes,

For cold, clarified water from rain clouds,

    Pure rainwater, unadulterated and unmixed,

Is but like my longing for you—yet I am wary.

O you who unlock every closed field of knowledge,

And a money-changer who assays speech:

If he says, “This is counterfeit,” it will not pass.

    Indeed, despite distance and separation,

We meet in remembrance, even if we do not meet.
