شَفاني الخَيالُ بِلا حَمدِهِ

شَفاني الخَيالُ بِلا حَمدِهِ

وَأَبدَلَني الوَصلَ مِن صَدِّهِ

وَأَبدَلَني الوَصلَ مِن صَدِّهِ

The dream-vision healed me, with no thanks to him,

Fantasy consoled me though not at his praise

And gave me union in place of his rejection.

And replaced his aloofness with an intimacy

وَكَم نَومَةٍ لِيَ قَوّادَةٍ

وَكَم نَومَةٍ لِيَ قَوّادَةٍ

أَتَت بِالحَبيبِ عَلى بُعدِهِ

أَتَت بِالحَبيبِ عَلى بُعدِهِ

And many a sleep, a procuress for me,

And how many a sleep of escort

Has brought the beloved, despite his distance.
