مِنfrom بَعدِafter ماthat فَتَكَravaged الفُراقُseparation بِعاشِقِagainst a lover
مِن بَعدِ ما فَتَكَ الفُراقُ بِعاشِقِ
The beloved drew near to the ardent lover,
The beloved draws near to the ardent lover
after separation had ravaged a lover.
After separation ravaged the impassioned one

وَدَنا مِنَ الأَوطانُ كُلُّ مُفارِقِ
So now separation has twisted its necks,
Now the stars have bowed their necks
and everyone who had departed has drawn near the homelands.
And every expatriate's homeland has come near

I present the Commander of the Faithful pleased
and remain unharmed to destroy the renegade foe.
And submitted to destroy the straying enemy

A lion emerged from his thicket, and they quailed—
A lion emerged from his den so the foxes
the foxes before him, at a resolute charge—
Shook before his true ferocity

until, when they recognized guidance and a hand cast away
Until they knew the right path and a hand hastened
what it had gathered for a deceiver and a thief,
What it had not gathered for a contender or thief

The swords have been sheathed and he saw positions
in heads, upper backs, and shoulders,
In heads, shoulders, and slender necks

With forbearance, respite, expansive gentleness

And he turned back his reins; had he entered the fray,
He restrained his supporters, and had the fray attended
their blood would have been like a spitter's spray.
Their blood would be like an expectorator's spittle

Follow the road's course, for he,
Walk the straight path, for if you desire
if you set out to break faith, is the swiftest pursuer.
To break it, swifter than you will be the pursuer

Do not think the new day is like your yesterday:
Do not reckon today as your yesterday
how far morning is from the deep darkness!
Where is the morn from the gloomy dark?
