Serve my wine unmixed; I have forsaken its cups

throughout the month of fasting; spare me its water.

So he poured me a draught from his ewer,

like fire, shining in the gloom of its darkness.

And the light of Shawwāl’s crescent gleams,

and the Daughters of Naʿsh stood opposite it,

like the fingertips of a devoted man who, when

the vizier’s face appeared, prayed for his long life.
