Quick to give at every ask,
وَجاءَتand she came بِهِwith him أُمٌّa mother مِنَfrom among السودِthe black women أَنجَبَتbore a noble child
وَجاءَت بِهِ أُمٌّ مِنَ السودِ أَنجَبَت
كَليلَةِlike a night سِرٍّthe month's dark end طَوَّقَتadorned بِهِلالِwith a crescent
كَليلَةِ سِرٍّ طَوَّقَت بِهِلالِ
And a black mother brought him forth, bearing a noble child,
Born of a black mother who gave birth
Like a night at the month's dark end, adorned with a crescent.
To a new moon ringed in crescent light.
