باحَ يا قَومُ مَن أُحِبُّ بِتَركي

باحَ يا قَومُ مَن أُحِبُّ بِتَركي

فَدَعوني أَبكي عَلَيهِ وَأَبكي

فَدَعوني أَبكي عَلَيهِ وَأَبكي

O people, the one I love has openly declared that he is leaving me.

Oh companions, let me be

So let me weep over him, and weep.

To weep for my beloved endlessly

قُلتُ لِلكَأسِ وَهوَ يَكرَعُ فيها

قُلتُ لِلكَأسِ وَهوَ يَكرَعُ فيها

ذُقتُ وَاللَهِ مِنهُ أَطيَبَ مِنكِ

ذُقتُ وَاللَهِ مِنهُ أَطيَبَ مِنكِ

I said to the cup, while he drank deeply from it:

I said unto the wine cup clear

“By God, I have tasted from him something sweeter than you.”

By God, your taste was not so dear
