ياO نَفسِmy soul صَبراًbe patient لَعَلَّperhaps الخَيرَgood عُقباكِyour outcome
يا نَفسِ صَبراً لَعَلَّ الخَيرَ عُقباكِ
خانَتكِbetrayed you مِنfrom بَعدِafter طولِa long span of الأَمنِsafety دُنياكِyour world
خانَتكِ مِن بَعدِ طولِ الأَمنِ دُنياكِ
O my soul, be patient; perhaps good will be your outcome.
O soul, be patient, perhaps good will come after you
Your world betrayed you after a long spell of safety.
The world has betrayed you after your long security
لَكِنbut هُوَit الدَهرُtime لُقياهُmeeting it عَلىwith حَذَرٍcaution
لَكِن هُوَ الدَهرُ لُقياهُ عَلى حَذَرٍ
فَرَبُّfor many a حارِسِguardian of نَفسيmy soul تَحتَbeneath إِشراكِsnares
فَرَبُّ حارِسِ نَفسي تَحتَ إِشراكِ
But such is time: meet it with caution.
But it is time, meet it with caution
For many a guardian of my soul lies caught in snares.
For the Lord watches over my soul under your protection
