أَيا فِتنَةً ما كُنتُ مُنتَظِراً لَها

أَيا فِتنَةً ما كُنتُ مُنتَظِراً لَها

أَما لِقَتيلِ الهَجرِ بِالوَصلِ مِن بَعثِ

أَما لِقَتيلِ الهَجرِ بِالوَصلِ مِن بَعثِ

O enchantment I had not expected!

O what an affliction I did not expect

Is there no resurrection through reunion for one slain by separation?

Is there no resurrection for one slain by estrangement with reunification

طَلائِعُ شَوقي لا يَقُرُّ قَرارُها

طَلائِعُ شَوقي لا يَقُرُّ قَرارُها

وَمَولايَ قاسٍ لا يَرِقُّ وَلا يَرثي

وَمَولايَ قاسٍ لا يَرِقُّ وَلا يَرثي

The vanguards of my longing find no rest.

The vanguards of my passion find no rest

And my master is cruel: he neither softens nor takes pity.

And my master is harsh, he feels no tenderness or sympathy

هَلَكتُ لَئِن دامَت عَلَيَّ يَمينُهُ

هَلَكتُ لَئِن دامَت عَلَيَّ يَمينُهُ

فَيا رَبِّ أَدرِكني وَوَفِّقهُ لِلحَنثِ

فَيا رَبِّ أَدرِكني وَوَفِّقهُ لِلحَنثِ

I am undone if his oath against me endures.

I will perish if his oath upon me persists

So, O my Lord, rescue me and help him break his oath.

So my Lord, reach me and make him break his oath
