إِن لَم تُفَرِّج هَمّي فَلا تَرِدِ
O breeze of the winds from my homeland,
O breeze of the winds from my country
If you do not ease my sorrow, then do not come.
If you do not relieve my anxiety, do not return

يَكحَلُ عَيني بِمِروَدِ السَهدِ
I spend the night with longing beside me in bed;
I refused and yearning in bed with me
It lines my eye with the kohl-stick of sleeplessness.
My eyes darken with the kohl of sleeplessness

أَشكوI complain إِلىto اللَهِGod لاnot إِلىto أَحَدِanyone
أَشكو إِلى اللَهِ لا إِلى أَحَدِ
Confessing my longing, dejected,
Confessing yearning, depressed
I complain to God, not to anyone else—
I complain to God, not to anyone

A lovesick man who sees life's end, and does not
Pouring who sees the end of life and does not
Hope for rest or immortality.
Hope for rest or eternity
