أَبا حَسَنٍ أَنتَ اِبنُ مُهدِيِّ فارِسٍ

أَبا حَسَنٍ أَنتَ اِبنُ مُهدِيِّ فارِسٍ

فَرِفقاً بِنا لَستَ اِبنَ مَهدِيِّ هاشِمِ

فَرِفقاً بِنا لَستَ اِبنَ مَهدِيِّ هاشِمِ

O Abu Hasan, you are the son of Persia’s Muhdi;

O Abu Hasan, you are the son of an eminent knight,

so be gentle with us—you are not the son of Hashim’s Mahdi.

So be gentle with us, you are not the son of Mahdi Hashim.

وَأَنتَ أَخي في يَومِ كَأسٍ وَلَذَّةٍ

وَأَنتَ أَخي في يَومِ كَأسٍ وَلَذَّةٍ

وَلَستَ أَخي في النائِباتِ العَظائِمِ

وَلَستَ أَخي في النائِباتِ العَظائِمِ

And you are my brother on a day of wine and pleasure,

You are my brother on the day of wine and pleasure,

but you are not my brother amid great calamities.

But you are not my brother in great misfortunes.
