طَوَتكُمleft you behind ياO بَنيsons of الدُنياthe world رِكابيmy riding camels
وَحارَبَكُمand warred against you رَجائيmy hope وَاِرتِعابيand my dread
My mounts have left you behind, O sons of the world,
And my hope and my dread have warred against you.
حُجِبتُI was shielded بِهِمَّتيby my resolve مِنfrom أَنthat تَرونيyou see me
أُراقِبُI await مِنكُمُfrom you رَفعَthe lifting of الحِجابِthe veil
My resolve kept you from seeing me
Waiting for you to lift the veil.
لَئِنeven if عُرّيتُI was stripped مِنof دُوَلٍfortunes أَراهاI see them
تُجَدِّدُrenew كُلَّevery يَومٍday لِلكِلابِfor the dogs
Even if I have been stripped of fortunes that I see
Renewing every day for the dogs,
لَقَدindeed خَلَّفتُهاI left them behind بَعدَafter اِبتِذالٍfree use
لَهاof them وَمَلَلتُهاand I grew weary of them قَبلَbefore الذَهابِthe departure
Indeed, I left them behind after making free use
Of them, and grew weary of them before they were gone.
