هُوَit الدَهرُtime قَدalready جَرَّبتَهُyou have experienced it وَعَرَفتَهُand you have known it
هُوَ الدَهرُ قَد جَرَّبتَهُ وَعَرَفتَهُ
فَصَبراًso be patient عَلىwith مَكروهِهِits hardships وَتَجَلُّداand be steadfast
فَصَبراً عَلى مَكروهِهِ وَتَجَلُّدا
It is Time—you have already experienced it and known it.
It is time, you have tried it and known it
So bear its hardships patiently, and be steadfast.
So be patient with its disliked things and endure
وَماand not الناسُpeople إِلّاexcept سابِقٌone who goes before ثُمَّthen لاحِقٌone who follows
وَما الناسُ إِلّا سابِقٌ ثُمَّ لاحِقٌ
وَآبِقُand a fugitive from مَوتٍdeath ثُمَّthen يَأخُذُهُit takes him غَداtomorrow
وَآبِقُ مَوتٍ ثُمَّ يَأخُذُهُ غَدا
And people are but one who goes before, then one who follows,
People are nothing but racers then successors
and a fugitive from death, which then takes him tomorrow.
And death's fugitives, then it will take them tomorrow
