أُخِذتُ مِنَ المُدامَةِ وَالتَصابي

أُخِذتُ مِنَ المُدامَةِ وَالتَصابي

وَعَرّاني المَشيبُ مِنَ الشَبابِ

وَعَرّاني المَشيبُ مِنَ الشَبابِ

I was taken away from wine and youthful dalliance,

I was taken from wine and revelry,

And gray hair stripped me of youth.

And old age stripped me of youth.

وَقَد كانَ الشَبابُ سُطورَ حُسني

وَقَد كانَ الشَبابُ سُطورَ حُسني

فَمَحَّيتُ السُطورَ مِنَ الكِتابِ

فَمَحَّيتُ السُطورَ مِنَ الكِتابِ

And indeed, youth had been the lines of my beauty,

My youth was written lines of beauty,

So I erased the lines from the book.

So I erased those lines from the book.
