بادَرتُI hastened مِنهُfrom him مَوعِداًa rendezvous حاضِراًat hand
بادَرتُ مِنهُ مَوعِداً حاضِراً
وَكانَand was ذاthis عِنديto me مِنَpart of الداءِthe affliction
وَكانَ ذا عِندي مِنَ الداءِ
I hastened to an immediate rendezvous with him.
I hastened to him for a present meeting
And this, to me, was part of the affliction.
And he was to me a sickness
فَلَمso did not أَنَلI obtain مِنهُfrom him سِوىexcept قُبلَةٍa kiss
فَلَم أَنَل مِنهُ سِوى قُبلَةٍ
وَأَرجَفَand spread rumors الناسُthe people بِأَشياءِabout things
وَأَرجَفَ الناسُ بِأَشياءِ
So I obtained from him nothing but a kiss.
So I obtained naught from him save a kiss
And people spread rumors about various things.
Yet people tattled of things
